Top 5 Carnival Parties in Madeira (2026 Guide)

Carnival is one of the most exciting times of the year in Madeira. The island fills with music, colour and that unmistakable energy that invites everyone to join the celebration.

From spontaneous costume nights in Funchal to traditional drum parades and international-themed parties, Carnival here is not just something you watch,  it’s something you live.

If you’re visiting Madeira during Carnival, or you’re already on the island and don’t want to miss the best nights, these are my top 5 Carnival parties in Madeira.

1. Carnival Float Parade Night (Saturday)

Saturday night is the heart of Carnival in Madeira.

The Carnival Float Parade takes over the streets of Funchal with more than 1,000 dancers, colourful costumes, samba rhythms and loud music. Sing, dance along and enjoy,  fun is guaranteed. And yes, you can absolutely bring your own costume and join the festive atmosphere.

📅 14 February 2026 🕗 The parade usually begins at 8:00 p.m.

📍 Where can you see the Funchal Carnival Float Parade?
The parade starts near the CR7 statue, continues along Avenida do Mar e das Comunidades Madeirenses, and finishes near the Autonomy Statue.

🎟️ Watching the Parade: Tickets vs Free Spots: You can enjoy the Carnival Float Parade in two ways. If you want to sit and have a clear view, there are paid stands along Avenida do Mar- tickets can be bought in advance here, and you’ll find more information on this page.

Prefer to watch for free? No problem. There are plenty of standing spots along the route, but arrive early to secure a good place, especially on Avenida do Mar.

💃 After the parade
Once the floats pass, the party doesn’t stop. Bars, clubs and streets in Funchal stay busy well into the night. For me, this is one of the nights that truly captures the spirit of Carnival in Madeira.

2. Batucada in Câmara de Lobos (Monday Night)

Carnival isn’t just about clubs and bars. Batucada in Câmara de Lobos is one of the most exciting traditional events, combining rhythm, dance and community spirit.

At around 9:00 p.m., groups parade through the central streets. Later in the night, drummers and dancers gather on stage for an intense and energetic performance.

📍 Where
Rua Nossa Senhora da Conceição, near Câmara de Lobos harbour

Loud, joyful and unforgettable… don’t miss it!

3.Cologne-Style Carnival Party (Madeira Unlocked)

Carnival in Madeira meets German tradition. The Cologne-style Carnival Party, organised by Madeira Unlocked, brings catchy carnival songs, international music and pure pub chaos ( in the best possible way). Whatever mood you’re in costumes are welcome, good vibes required.

4. Travesties Night (Friday Carnival Weekend)

One of the most iconic Carnival nights in Madeira, Travesties Night is all about freedom, creativity and fun.

From Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to full football teams dressed as CR7, there are no limits here, the more original, the better. Dress up as you wish, free your spirit and enjoy one of the liveliest nights of the year.

5. Festa de Carnaval – Garouta do Calhau

For a more glamorous Carnival night, Garouta do Calhau’s Carnival Party takes place in one of Funchal’s most iconic venues!

🎉 Bonus: Carnival Nights All Over Funchal

During Carnival week, many bars, pubs and hotels in Funchal host themed nights and spontaneous parties, especially around:

  • Old Town (Zona Velha)

  • Avenida do Mar

  • Hotel rooftops and lounges

If you’re in town, keep an eye on posters and social media, some of the best Carnival moments are completely unplanned…

Don’t Leave Without Trying “Sonhos”!

Carnival in Madeira wouldn’t be complete without tasting Sonhos, the traditional Carnival dessert.
You’ll find them in bakeries all over the island, light, sweet and the perfect boost of energy for dancing.
