From London to Tunbridge Wells

Last summer I flew to London to attend a wedding, that took place in a nearby city called Royal Tunbridge Wells, and that I’ve fallen in love with this place… why?

“Tunbridge Wells is Tunbridge Wells and there is nothing really like it upon our planet. ” stated the quote by H.G.Wells on my map, and I couldn’t have said it better ;)

It’s not easy to put it into words… there’s a pretty alluring atmosphere all around. It’s a city that feels safe, charming, lively yet peaceful.

In this distinctive city, there are stylish shops, modern art galleries, inviting bakeries & coffee shops. There’s a pedestrian road full of posh restaurants, cool craft beer pubs and fancy gin bars. You’ll see the cutest dogs and walk across lovely parks and cricket clubs.

You’ll find a good amount of stunning manor houses, and be pleasantly surprised by Tunbridge Wells architecture in general, dating mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries, mostly appreciated while strolling along the heart of the city – the Pantiles.

My favorite thing to do in Tunbridge Wells?  I visited the SPA Valley Railway and hopped on a heritage train between Turnbridge Wells West and Eridge. This glimpse from the past, rides through a beautiful scenic railroad (with adorable little train stations) which exceeded my expectations. A big praise for the volunteers for keeping this magical experience still running.

A curious story about Tunbridge Wells? At the Pantiles, you’ll find a mineral rich water spring, discovered in 1606, called The Chalybeate Spring. In those days, news from its exceptional healing properties spread, and in 1629 the Queen of England came to taste the famous water. The outcome was that she found herself pregnant (shortly after visiting ;) There’s an enduring connection with the British Royal Family, hence both the town and spring were granted the prestigious Royal Title in 1909.

How to get to Tunbridge Wells?

I went from London Gatwick to Tunbridge Wells by car rental (45 minutes drive) but if driving on the left side of the road is not for you, you should know that both train (+- 1h3om trip) &  bus (+- 2h30m) options are equally available.

Places to stay in Tunbridge Wells?

I stayed at the SPA Hotel and I really felt relaxed and happy there. The breakfast views, the gardens and the spa where its highlights for me.

And so I leave with some photos from Tunbridge Wells, the first stop in my one week’s summer holiday in the UK. New posts about Oxford, Bath and Bristol coming soon!

Friends only ;)

That British humor…;)

Superou as minhas expectativas.

Eu fiquei no SPA Hotel e senti-me realmente relaxada e feliz.
